RFID Laundry

RFID asset tracking is a flourishing business and RFID tags are used extensively to track objects and individuals in various businesses including laundry management, retail, healthcare tool tracking, library management with tracking of books and journals, IT asset tracking, supply chain and logistics and warehouse management etc.

Use of RFID to track laundry/linen/garments has become quite affordable with the decline in RFID implementation cast and the availability of UHF RFID laundry tags at low prices. With the tag prices coming down to 4-5 cents from 40-50 cents when purchased in bulk, it provides a foolproof method to sort and record laundry and track garments.

RFID and Laundry Tags

Radio-frequency identification (RFID) laundry/linen tags are small electronic tags that are used to track linens, uniforms, and other fabric items throughout the laundry cycle. These tags are typically attached to the item being tracked and contain a small microchip that stores information about the item such as its unique identification number, size, and fabric type.

RFID laundry tags use radio waves to communicate with a reader or scanner, which can be used to quickly and accurately identify and track the item throughout the laundry cycle.

When the tagged item enters or exits a laundry facility, the RFID reader or scanner will pick up the signal from the UHF RFID tag/label attached to the linen, and the information stored on the tag is transmitted back to the system.

RFID Linen Tag Specification

These RFID garment tags are wash proof and can handle up to 200 wash cycles and high pressure going up to 60 bars. These tags are available in various shapes, sizes and physical and technical specification vis-à-vis memory and read-range. The RFID LF (Low Frequency) laundry tags operate at a frequency range of 128 KHz and provide a close read range of up to few inches and RFID HF (High Frequency) laundry tags operate at a high frequency of 13.56 MHz, providing a read range between 10cm to 100cm. The HF laundry tags are most suitable for bed linens, towels and medical scrubs and uniforms.

The UHF (Ultra High Frequency) RFID laundry tags work at the frequency range of 860-960MHz and are suitable for industrial laundry management needs, medical uniforms, and hotel linens. These UHF linen tags are made of silicon rubber, flexible, and suitable for high pressure and temperature uses and provide the read range of up to 12-15m.

How RFID Laundry Tags Work?

RFID laundry tags work by seamlessly inserting these tags into linen items and tracking these tags with the help of an RFID reader/scanner. The UHF laundry tags are encoded with an identification number that can be efficiently tracked and traced throughout the laundry cycle.

RFID laundry tags are beneficial for businesses because they allow for comprehensive tracking of linens and other fabric items, which can help to improve inventory management and reduce loss or theft of these items. The tags also allow for more efficient laundry cycle processing, as they can be used to help automate the sorting and processing of items, reducing the need for manual labor.

RFID Laundry Management

In a laundry business, RFID laundry tags can be used to track the location of linens and other fabric items throughout the laundry cycle, including arrival, sorting, washing, drying, and folding. It helps to ensure that the correct items are conveyed to the appropriate area of the laundry facility, reducing the risk of errors or lost items.

Besides, RFID laundry tags can help businesses to identify and track the washing lifecycle of items including the number of wash cycles an item has gone through, any maintenance or repairs that may be needed, and when an item needs to be replaced. This information, if monitored correctly, can help businesses to make more informed decisions about their inventory management and purchasing strategies, ensuring that they are able to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction while also controlling costs.

To summarize, RFID laundry tags are an important tool for businesses in the laundry industry, as they allow for comprehensive tracking and processing of linens and other fabric items throughout the laundry cycle.

RFID laundry tags can help businesses in improving their inventory management strategies, reduce loss or theft of items, and automate the sorting and processing of items, leading to increased efficiency and reduced operating expenses.
