INTRODUCTION

You might have got panicked while leaving your phone on charging overnight. You must have several questions about this. In this blog, you will get to know everything about batteries and the impact of charging them overnight. Keep reading.

What is Lithium-Ion Battery?

First learning scientific definition, a lithium-ion battery is a rechargeable battery that works by transferring lithium ions between the negative (anode) and positive (cathode) electrodes to charge and discharge. They're often substantially lighter than comparable rechargeable batteries. A lithium-ion battery's electrodes are constructed of lightweight lithium and carbon. In one kilogram of the lithium-ion battery, 150 watt-hours of power may be stored. Nothing beats a lithium-ion battery right now. It offers a better energy density, more battery cycles, a faster charging rate, and is safer to use than other cell technologies. They have no memory effect, therefore unlike some other batteries, you don't have to fully empty them before recharging them. After a certain amount of recharging, any battery's capacity will deteriorate. Each entire charge cycle reduces the capacity of lithium-ion batteries somewhat.

Lithium-ion batteries are utilized in a broad range of applications, including consumer devices like smartphones and PCs, industrial robots, production equipment, and cars since they can store large amounts of electricity. An onboard computer is required to handle a lithium-ion battery pack. This raises their price of them even further.

Should you charge your phone overnight?

What will happen when the smartphone is fully charged? This is the first question that comes to our mind while charging our phones overnight. The basic answer we can think of is overcharging.

Will overcharging damage our phone’s battery? This is the second question about which we start getting worried.

The answer is simple. No, you can't overcharge your phone's battery. To avoid this, manufacturers implement protections. When you charge your gadget to 100%, however, it adds a "trickle charge," or enough more energy to compensate for what it uses by default. You're overcharging your battery by charging it to 100% and leaving it plugged in, causing it to use the energy it doesn't require.

What happens if you charge your phone overnight?

Lithium-ion battery undergoes stress. There's no denying that Li-ion batteries are the best. Li-ion batteries are stressed when they're fully charged (100 per cent). And if it does so month after month, its recoverable capacity will decrease; while the reduction may not be significant in the near term, it does create a dent in the battery capacity that will be a long-term thorn in your side.

What preventions should be followed while charging your phone overnight?

Plan your nightly charging so that it is fully charged before you go to bed. To put it another way, don't charge your phone overnight. If you have a set bedtime, charge it for 2 hours (or less, depending on charging speed and battery level) before you go to bed. Although battery-friendly, it is inconvenient.

Replace the fast charger with a slow charger. It will assist to reduce the fast charging heat and the amount of time spent at full charge. Your phone will still charge for a few hours, but it will be substantially less.

If you wake up dead in the night from nightmares or need to use the restroom, unplug. Or if you're a morning person. It's not much, but it helps with very little effort.

Alternatively, use a smart charging cable that turns off the power when the battery is fully charged. You'll be able to limit deterioration while still receiving the smartphone runtime and sleep you require.

Smartphones are delicate. However, the thick cases in which you wrap your phones trap heat and delay cooling. Consider exercising while wearing a winter jacket. However, this does not apply to all, as some, such as phone skins, are not as thick. Try to keep track of how hot your smartphone gets when charging in different situations.
